| Friday 11th August 2006 Kids 30 minute solo ProKart Race Race 1 of 2 Pole - Jake Futter Matt Spragg has been promoted to starting 2nd on the grid as Ashley Hornigold has failed to turn up. I think he is on holiday somewhere hot, lucky him! It is a pity he is not here though as he excelled himself in last month's race when it was wet. Tonight they are racing a twisty 765-metre track configuration and it is very slippery. One of the racers described it as 'like driving on ice.' Most of the drivers are racing on wet tyres but the track now has some dry lines appearing. Sam Smith broke his rear axle in the practise laps. All us spectators heard was a huge crack, that didn't sound too good! The whole axle had completely snapped in half. So Sam has resorted to using Colin Powley's kart. We have 9 kids competing tonight. Matt Spragg is squealing his tyres around the corners. What a lot of racket and he and everyone are making! Daniel Bowman was doing his best ever up till the point he got knocked in to the tyres and was stranded there for a little while. Before he got knocked in to the tyres he was 5th but after the incident he dropped to 9th. 12 minutes have gone; the rain is falling again! Lee Ashurst is still leading the pack. He got away to a magnificent start earlier on. 17 minutes have now gone. Sean Haller has pinched the lead from Lee. But Lee is only 0.35 of a second behind Sean so one mistake from either of them could make them lose it all. 3 minutes left. The top two positions are still the same. Daniel Powley is in 3rd; 13.12 seconds behind 2nd place Lee. Fastest lap of 44.08 by Lee done on lap 37. That is the same lap as when he was battling his best to get by Sean, which he managed to do. So Lee takes the chequered flag, 0.97 of a second ahead of 2nd place finisher Sean Haller. Well raced lads! Results for race 1 1 - Lee Ashurst Race 2 of 2 In a reversed grid order from the kids race earlier: Daniel Bowman got off to a good start. He needs to keep his concentration if he wants to keep the lead as he has Daniel Powley right behind him. Sean and Jake had a crash together. This proceeded to drop them both to the back of the field. Jake is finding it hard to drive in these damp conditions. He isn't really heavy enough to be able to keep it on the track. He had the same trouble in last month's race. 18 minutes have passed. Only 12 minutes to go. Daniel Powley has taken the lead. His mate Sean Haller is a lap and 45.14 seconds behind Daniel. He is this far behind because of his earlier incident, which lost him both precious time and places. Daniel Powley has the current fastest lap of 53.99, which was done, on lap 16. Sam Smith a.k.a Smiffy managed to get his new rear axle fitted in time for this 2nd race. So he is out there now, with the rest and best of them, playing in the rain! Lee Ashurst is in 3rd. Him and Chris Woods are fighting for 3rd and 4th positions. Chris is currently only 0.20 of a second behind him. Only 5 minutes of the race left. Chris has just overtaken Lee for 3rd place. New fastest lap by Daniel Powley with a 53.84 done on lap 33. He is currently the only one to be lapping down in the 53 seconds. The rest of the kids are in the 55, 56 and 57 seconds. He is flying this proves he is a good driver in the wet. Results for race 2 1 - Daniel Powley |
